Cuttack: A young engineer from Maharashtra drowned while his colleague went missing after being swept away in the Kathajodi River near CDA area in Odisha's Cuttack on Sunday.

Sources said both the engineers were part of a project team working on the expansion of SCB Medical College and Hospital in the city.

The deceased has been identified as Rutik Bhanje (24) while the missing person is Rutikesh Matal (25). Both hailed from Maharashtra and were employed with a private company.

As per information, the two engineers, along with two others from the same team, had gone for a bath in the Kathajodi River. One of them reportedly slipped and was dragged into deep water by the strong current. His colleague jumped in to save him but also got swept away.

Their colleagues raised an alert and a team from Fire Service launched a search and rescue operation.
