Nusraat Faria, a prominent Bangladeshi actress known for her portrayal of Sheikh Hasina in the biopic Mujib: The Making of a Nation, has been arrested at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport. The 31-year-old actress was detained at the immigration checkpoint while en route to Thailand, following an arrest warrant issued in connection with an attempted murder case linked to last year's anti-government protests, according to Bangladeshi media reports.

A case was registered against 17 actors, including Faria, for their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a student in the Vatara area of the capital during the intense student protests across Bangladesh in July 2024. These protests eventually led to the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"Our team went to the airport to get her based on information from the Immigration Police. A few days ago, a court approved an attempted murder case against her. She has been shown arrested in that case," bdnews24.com reported, quoting police officer Sujan Haque.

"The case was filed at the Vatara police station during the anti-discrimination student movement's protests," Haque added.

Following her arrest, the actress was reportedly taken to the Vatara police station before being transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), according to Prothom Alo, citing police sources.

Faria first rose to prominence with her acting debut in Aashiqui (2015), starring opposite Ankush Hazra. The film was a commercial success and was followed by a string of hits, including Hero 420 (2016), Badsha - The Don (2016), Premi O Premi (2017), and Boss 2: Back to Rule (2017).

In 2023, she took on the significant role of Sheikh Hasina in Mujib: The Making of a Nation, a biographical film on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. Directed by legendary filmmaker Shyam Benegal, the film was a joint production by Bangladesh and India, starring Arifin Shuvoo as the titular Mujib.
