The development will significantly boost the public transport connectivity across the eastern suburbs, particularly in the Thane region.
According to a Free Press Journal report, the trial operations will begin across 10 stations on the Cadbury junction-Gaimukh stretch. The 10 stops along the route are—Cadbury, Majiwada, Kapurbawadi, Manpada, Tikuji Ni Wadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden, Kasarvadavli, Gownipada and Gaimukh.
The stretch is a part of the larger 32.32-kilometre elevated Mumbai Metro Line 4, which connects Wadala to Kasarvadavali. The line, which will include 30 stations, will serve as a crucial connector between central Mumbai and Thane, the report added, quoting sources.
As per the FPJ report, although the designated depot for Line 4 is still under construction, the MMRDA has found a workaround. They have set up inspection pits beyond the terminal station at Gaimukh, which will enable early testing and trial operations, thereby ensuring the project is right on track.
This came days after the MMRDA conducted trial runs on Mumbai Metro Line 9. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM and agency chairman Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar were all present for the event held earlier this week.
The trial was conducted on the 4.4-km stretch from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon, which comprises four stations.
Metro Line 4 a key connector between Mumbai and Thane
Mumbai Metro Line 4 will be providing interconnectivity alongside the existing infrastructure, like Eastern Express Highway, Central Railway and Mono Rail. It will also be connected to other Metro Lines 2B, 5 and 6.
The nearly 30-kilometre network is expected to reduce road congestion and slash commute times by 50 per cent to 75 per cent. This will bring much-needed relief for thousands of commuters who have to navigate their way through traffic-clogged routes.
Metro Line 4A will extend its reach
The Metro Line 4A is a 2.7-kilometre elevated extension from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh with two additional stations. This corridor further enhances accessibility to northern Thane and extends the benefits of Metro Line 4 to a broader population.
