"If you were the political editor of the BBC, and then you kept coming down personally hard on one side all the time, then I would have thought that would be a problem," he said.
Pierce jumped in: "He just kept pushing it," referring to Lineker's propensity for controversial social media posts.
As Maguire tried to talk over him Pierce continued: "When I heard that apology last week, I thought finally, he's apologised for something.
"I think it must be so bad for him to have apologised, because he's arrogantly..." At this point Maguire once agai tried to cut in an was dismissed by Pierce who said: "Can I just finish, talking of free speech."
He continued with his point saying: "When he did apologise. I thought 'I think he realises the tectonic plates have shifted'."
