A serious accident occurred on the Mumbai-Goa Highway, resulting in the tragic deaths of five individuals. The incident took place when a car plunged into the Jagbudi River in Khed, while a family was traveling from Mira Road in Mumbai to Devrukh. Shockingly, the victims were en route to attend a relative's funeral when the accident happened. The vehicle fell approximately 100 feet from the Jagbudi River bridge.
In this unfortunate event, five people lost their lives, while the driver sustained severe injuries. He was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Upon learning about the car's plunge into the river, many rushed to the Jagbudi River bridge. All five deceased were members of the same family.
The victims hailed from Mira-Bhayander and Nalasopara. The Sawant Paradkar family resided in Nalasopara, while the More family was from Mira-Bhayander. They had set off for their hometown Devrukh around 11:30 PM on Sunday, traveling in a Kia car with the registration number MH 02 3265. After crossing the Bharane Naka village on the Mumbai-Goa highway, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash through the bridge divider and fall into the river. The impact was severe, and the car fell between 100 to 150 feet, resulting in complete destruction of the vehicle. A crane was used to retrieve the car, and the bodies along with the injured were extracted.
Local residents and police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident was reported, initiating rescue operations immediately. The car was lifted with the help of a crane, but by then, it was too late. All five passengers were declared dead at the scene. Their bodies were sent to Khed Rural Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The accident caused temporary traffic disruptions on the highway.
