In a major step towards transparency and efficiency, the Maharashtra Transport Department successfully executed the online transfer of 159 Motor Vehicle Inspectors (IMVs) on Monday. The transfers took place in the presence of Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik at his Mantralaya office.

In the Transport Department, the transfer and posting of inspectors had become a contentious issue. Several allegations of unfair practices in transfers and postings had surfaced in the recent past.

According to the Transport Minister, the online system—designed to streamline the transfer process—has reportedly brought significant satisfaction among officers and staff, as it aligns postings with their preference rankings. Minister Sarnaik emphasized that such digital initiatives not only promote fairness but also increase operational transparency within the department.

In addition, Minister Sarnaik also reviewed the system. During the review meeting on Monday, he directed Transport Department officials to further enhance the online transfer mechanism, with a special focus on addressing the concerns of women employees. “While ensuring transparency, the system must also be sensitive to individual challenges, particularly those faced by women officers,” he said.

To improve the success rate of preferred postings, the Minister proposed increasing the number of choices available to officers from three to five. He also instructed the department to refine and strengthen the process for the upcoming year.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Sethi, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, and Joint Secretary Rajendra Holkar. A review of last year’s online transfer process was also undertaken to identify areas for further improvement.
