It's the middle of May, and rain, quite naturally, has started visiting states, while the Indian Premier League is yet to be wrapped up. In such a case, the match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians is likely to face a rain threat. As per the Accumeter predictions, Mumbai, tomorrow's host, is likely to experience 77% precipitation. Even now, it's raining heavily in Mumbai. several places, including Thane, Panvel and Navi Mumbai have been under severe rain alert today

Not only that, as per the reports, Mumbai is likely to receive heavy rainfall throughout the week. The IMD has issued an Orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Navi Mumbai till 11 PM, predicting heavy pre-monsoon rain. A Red alert is in place for Nashik, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg till 10 PM. As per SkyWatch Weather India, Kalyan, Dombivli, Bhiwandi, and Vasai-Virar may receive heavy rain, while Borivali-Bhayandar, Ovale, and Bhayandarpada in Thane could see thunderstorms.

In such a case there are high possibilities of tomorrow's match getting abandoned if the rain doesn't stop in time. As per AccuWeather, there might be around 40% precipitation at around 7 pm. However, it will gradually reduce to 30% towards 11 pm.

What if rain washes out tomorrow's match?

If rain spoils the match tomorrow, Delhi Capitals (DC) will have to win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 24 to stay alive. But that alone won't be enough. They'll also need Mumbai Indians (MI) to lose their final league game against PBKS on May 26.

For MI, the equation is simpler. If DC loses on the 24th, MI qualifies regardless of their result. However, if DC wins, MI must win their last game to confirm qualification. Interestingly, even a no-result (NR) against PBKS on May 26 could be enough for MI, but only if DC doesn’t surpass their Net Run Rate (NRR) on the 24th.

So, the playoff race is still wide open. Rain tomorrow could tilt the balance slightly towards MI, but everything boils down to performances—and NRR—in the final two games.

Meanwhile, rain threat forced BCCI to reschedule the 23rd's match between and Sunrisers Hyderabad from Bengaluru to Lucknow's Ekana Stadium on May 27.
