Following indications of a potential bomb threat aboard a Hawaiian Airlines aircraft scheduled to depart from San Diego International Airport, the plane was evacuated and one individual was taken into custody, according to authorities.
Port of San Diego Harbor police said that at around 8:45 a.m. Monday, the Airbus A330 headed for Honolulu had barely pulled back from the gate when a flight attendant alerted the captain that a passenger had reported a potential bomb on board.
The FBI arrived to search the airplane after the captain summoned SWAT and police. According to the police statement, nothing untoward was discovered, and travelers were not in danger.
According to a statement from Hawaiian Airlines, the captain notified police as a precaution after a guest was heard threatening the safety of the flight.
In an email, Port of San Diego spokesman Brianne Mundy Page announced that an arrest had been made. Page said that further information will be made public later on Monday, but there was no immediate information on a suspect or any charges.
Hawaiian Airlines Flight 15’s 293 passengers were all evacuated and taken to a secure location by bus.
