The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has officially stated that the devotional song Srinivasa Govinda is under its copyright and cannot be used by anyone without legal permission. This declaration comes in response to its usage in the Santhanam-starrer film 'DD Next Level,' where a line from the sacred song was included in the rap number 'Kissa 47,' sparking backlash ahead of the film’s release.
Santhanam’s 'DD Next Level' sparks controversy with rap song
Actor Santhanam, known for his signature comedy roles in Tamil cinema, starred in 'DD Next Level,' the fourth installment in the Dhilluku Dhuddu franchise directed by S. Prem Anand . The film also featured Keerthika Tiwari, Selvaraghavan, and Gautham Vasudev Menon in key roles. While the film itself drew attention, it was the controversial song that gained widespread criticism for mixing devotional lyrics with a rap genre.
Political leaders demand apology over misuse of sacred song
Political leader and TTD board member Banuprakash Reddy condemned the use of the 'Srinivasa Govinda' lyrics, demanding the song be removed immediately and that the makers offer a public apology. He also warned that a defamation case claiming ₹100 crore in damages would be filed if the issue was not addressed. Following the uproar, the film’s team reportedly removed the song before the film's theatrical release.
TTD sends legal notice, warns of criminal action for future violations
As per News 18, TTD has now confirmed that a legal notice has been sent to the film’s producers, questioning the unauthorized use of the sacred song. TTD official Syamala Rao emphasized that future violations would not be tolerated and warned that criminal proceedings would be initiated if similar actions are repeated. The Devasthanam has made its stance clear on protecting devotional content from unauthorized and inappropriate usage in commercial media.
