Resignation with apology
Eto submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, which was accepted. Talking to the media, he said:
“I made an inappropriate and insensitive remarks. When the people of the country are facing the food crisis, then such a statement of the person sitting on the responsibility of me is unacceptable. So I thought it appropriate to resign.”
Eto also clarified that he actually buys his rice himself, and he also apologized to the public for his statement.
The government’s big political shock
Eto’s resignation is being considered another major setback for the Ishiba government already struggling.
According to reports, in his place, former Environment Minister Shinjiro Koijami can be assigned the Ministry of Agriculture.
The opposition had warned that if Eto does not resign, a no -confidence motion would be brought against them.
