Kamal Haasan is not one to rest on his laurels. At 70, the cinema legend continues to push boundaries—not just on screen, but in technology too. With a film career that spans over six decades, Kamal Haasan’s evolution from actor to director to social commentator is well documented. Now, he’s taking a deep dive into Artificial Intelligence , proving that learning truly has no age. In a recent interview, Kamal Haasan revealed that he even traveled to the US specifically to understand AI better and its implications for the future.
A learner’s spirit in the face of innovation
In a candid chat with India Today, the ' Thug Life ' star opened up about his experience with AI. “I went there to learn it,” he said, “but it’s beyond me and beyond all of us.” Despite finding AI complex, he emphasized the importance of understanding the technology before applying it. Haasan also urged caution, noting that while the tech is evolving rapidly, diving in without full awareness can be dangerous.
AI and the Silver Screen: Still a long road ahead
When asked about the use of AI in cinema , Kamal Haasan was clear, it’s still early days. While the potential is there, especially for visual storytelling, he believes we’re just scratching the surface. Describing the current phase of AI in film as “nascent,” he reassured that AI will inevitably become as normal as computers in everyday life and urged artists and audiences alike to not feel intimidated by it.
A nod to AR Rahman ’s musical AI experiment
Haasan also reflected on how others in the industry are exploring AI. He praised AR Rahman’s recent work, where the composer used AI to recreate the voices of late singers in 'Lal Salaam.' “AR Rahman knows it better,” Kamal Haasan admitted, showcasing admiration for how the Oscar winner is blending technology and art.
