The Royals took on the Super Kings in Match 62 of IPL 2025 in a bottom-of-the-table clash. CSK had a couple of decent performances, but an overall underwhelming innings saw the team make only 187 runs in 20 overs.
In response, the RR opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave the team a fine start. Vaibhav even scored a half-century. Sanju played a fine 41-run inning too. Then, Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer finished the game well before the allotted time as the Royals won by six wickets with 17 balls to spare.
This was Rajasthan’s last game in IPL 2025. They finish the disappointing season in ninth place with four wins, 10 losses, eight points, and a negative net run rate in 14 matches. This was the team’s worst-performing season under Samson’s captaincy.
Well, Sanju didn’t play the entire season. He came into the tournament with a finger injury and did not captain in the first three matches. Then, for a big chunk in the middle, he suffered an abdominal injury and ended up captaining less than half the season.

It now seems that last night’s game was Sanju’s final match in a pink jersey. Speculations, reports, and rumours abound on social media about the RR skipper’s status with his team. A few years ago, the Super Kings approached Samson to join their team, only for the Kerala native to remain with his current team.
The narrative of Sanju leaving RR has now gathered new steam after the wicketkeeper/batter was seen talking to some people from the CSK management after last night’s match.
This meeting is making many people believe that Sanju Samson might be done with the Rajasthan Royals and might be traded to the Chennai Super Kings in 2026.
Most people posting this stuff on social media recognise that this is nothing more than speculation at the moment. There were some rumours of the Kolkata Knight Riders looking to sign Samson as well. These narratives have gotten a new life because of the disappointing season RR had in IPL 2025.
