Keonjhar: On Wednesday, a three-member delegation from the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EACPM) visited Keonjhar to assess the use of funds allocated under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF). Their mission is to conduct a thorough evaluation of development initiatives financed by DMF, particularly in areas impacted by mining activities. The team comprises joint secretaries KK Tripathi and Apurva Mishra, along with Pradyumna Mahakud, the additional secretary from the state’s Planning and Coordination department.
Upon their arrival, Keonjhar Collector Vishal Singh greeted the team at the Circuit House and engaged in discussions regarding the matter. Sources indicate that the committee will examine the operational effectiveness of the DMF Trust and review the execution of various schemes associated with it. This marks the first visit of its kind since the DMF became fully operational in the district. The review is taking place amidst ongoing allegations of irregularities, financial mismanagement, and corruption concerning DMF-funded projects. Reports suggest that project deadlines have been frequently missed and extended without proper performance evaluations, and unauthorized salary increases for several staff members were approved by the DMF Trust Board. The Central team aims to scrutinize the utilization of DMF funds and ensure adherence to the newly established guidelines.
Additionally, a joint review meeting involving all relevant departments is planned. Collector Vishal Singh stated, “The team is here to evaluate the functioning of the DMF, the expenditure of its funds, and how to align ongoing projects with the new guidelines.” Meanwhile, local residents are closely monitoring the situation, eager to see what actions may arise from the findings of this significant review, according to sources.
