Alejandro Garnacho's brother has lashed out on social media after his sibling was not introduced until the 71st minute in Manchester United's Europa League final defeat. The winger was unable to help United find the goal they needed despite piling immense pressure on Tottenham in the final 20 minutes.

Ruben Amorim started Mason Mount instead of Garnacho. The England international has enjoyed a resurgence in recent weeks since recovering from nearly 18 months of injury hell. It meant that Garnacho had to settle for a place on the bench. The 20-year-old eventually replaced Mount in the 71st minute and had one bright moment, cutting inside before forcing Spurs goalkeeper Vicario into a good save.

Younger brother Roberto Garnacho is seemingly unhappy with Amorim for only turning to the Argentina international so late on. In an Instagram post, he argued that his sibling's contributions in previous round and in other finals warranted a place in the starting 11.

Alongside a picture of the United star, Roberto wrote: "Working as no one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in last two finals, just to be on the pitch 19 minutes and get thrown under the bus, wowe hahahahaha."

Before kick-off in Bilbao, Garnacho posted a picture of himself scoring in last year's FA Cup final on his Instagram story. It was a potential hint that he had learned he was not starting and was unhappy with Amorim's decision.

Explaining his decision to start Mount over Garnacho, Amorim said: "I feel that Mason in this moment gives us a different balance. Because he's really good attacking but also the way he compacts the team, he's one extra midfielder.

"You know that Tottenham put all the full-backs and midfielders inside with a lot of people overloading that space, so my thinking was to have possession and a right foot in that position is really important. And to also have speed on the bench, because we have Amad on the other side. We need to have legs to change the game."

Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of the game shortly before half-time. United struggled to break down an untypically sturdy Spurs defence in the second half. Only Garnacho and Luke Shaw tested Vicario, while Hojlund had a header acrobatically cleared off the line by Micky van de Ven.

Both teams have endured horror Premier League seasons, with United and Spurs occupying the two spots directly outside the relegation zone.
