New Delhi: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has filed a legal case against Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia, co-owners of the Indian Premier League side Punjab Kings, in a Chandigarh High Court.
Zinta, Burman and Wadia are co-directors of KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the company that owns PBKS.
In her lawsuit, Zinta has sought to declare an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of the company that took place on April 21, as illegal and invalid, reports The Tribune.
She has claimed that it was held without meeting proper procedures under the Companies Act, 2013, and other secretarial rules for general meetings.
Zinta said she had raised objections about the meeting through an e-mail on April 10 but they were ignored and claimed that Burman conducted the meeting with the support of Wadia.
The 50-year-old had attended the meeting with another director Karan Paul and they had objected to the appointment of Muneesh Khanna as a director.
Zinta has also sought to restrain the company and other directors from conducting any further board meetings or general meetings and/or conduct any business to the company without her and Paul’s presence during the trial period or until the case is resolved.
It was also pointed out that no chairperson was appointed to conduct the meeting. Zinta has a 23 per cent stake in KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, which is incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956. The company owns Punjab Kings and holds franchise license of the IPL.
PBKS has been in impressive form this season. Under new captain Shreyas Iyer, they have qualified for the play-offs for the first time since 2014.
With 17 points from 12 matches, they are third in the standings and are battling to finish the league stage among the top two teams. They take on Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on May 24 and Mumbai Indians on May 26.
