Sydney Sweeney isn’t ruling anything out just yet, but a definitive response may still be lacking. The actress of Anyone But You has once again stoked speculation about a potential 2023 romantic comedy sequel by stating that she currently has nothing specific to reveal.
“You’ll just have to wait and see,” the 27-year-old actress said in a recent interview with Empire. It’s neither a yes nor a no. “I don’t have an answer that I can say for you,” is what it is.
Sydney, who costarred with Glen Powell in the movie, has been evasive about the situation for some time. She responded similarly when E! News inquired about working with Glen again on a project earlier this year, during the Madame Web premiere in February.
She said, “I can’t really tell you all of my secrets.” “But Glen and I—well, I spoke with him this morning—we’re discussing things.”
She said, “You never know; you’ll have to wait and see,” in response to the reporter’s attempt to explain if “stuff” indicated a sequel.
Glen has also taken care not to reveal anything. Sydney, however, responded with a series of emojis that included zipped lips, a heart, prayer hands, and sunglasses after E! News posted his remarks on Instagram. Fans were left wondering even more after that understated response.
Since the movie’s premiere, many have been curious about Sydney and Glen’s off-screen relationship. Following Sydney’s split from her ex-fiancé, Jonathan Davino, earlier this year, rumors of a potential real-life relationship began when they were seen together. When she went to Texas to attend Glen’s sister’s wedding, the rumors intensified.
However, both performers have insisted that their relationship is only that of close friends. During his April visit on Jenna & Friends, Glen discussed Sydney’s relationship with his family, stating, “She and Syd are obviously great friends.” The wedding was an incredible event. The Powells are skilled at it. In addition, he made a joke about the time, saying, “Isn’t timing everything in this world?”
“They’re definitely not together,” Cyndy Powell, Glen’s mother, told the media, clearing the air.
“We adore Sydney. We just think of her as a very, very close friend. We haven’t seen her in a while, although we spent a lot of time together. We all like her, and she’s a true friend,” she told the Daily Mail.
Anyone But You, directed by Will Gluck, centers on Bea and Ben, a couple who had a tense first date but wind up acting like the ideal pair during an Australian destination wedding.
