Police Custody for Suspected Terrorists

A court in Vizianagaram has ordered two suspected terrorists to be held in police custody for a week. The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana police apprehended the suspects, Siraj ur Rahman (29) and Syed Sameer (28), during a joint operation on Saturday, seizing explosives from their possession.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Soumya Latha informed a news agency on Thursday, "The court has remanded Rahman and Sameer to seven days of police custody." Currently, the suspects are being held at the Visakhapatnam central jail.

The ASP added, "If we receive directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Until then, police will interrogate them in custody."

According to police reports, Rahman was arrested based on a tip-off, leading to the discovery of explosives such as ammonia, sulfur, and aluminum powder during a search operation at his premises.

Following Rahman's confession, Sameer was arrested in a joint operation with Telangana police in Boiguda, Hyderabad. Both suspects face charges under the Explosive Substances Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Indian Penal Code.
