Read, Digital Desk : Urmimala Boruah and her daughter Snigdha Boruah have come into the spotlight after showcasing their work at the Cannes Film Festival. Their achievement comes from a tranquil village in Assam, emphasizing the latent capabilities of regional cinema at international competitions.

Alongside participating in the festival, they were also part of India’s identity in the international sphere. While Snigdha steps into the limelight under the guidance of her mother, a filmmaker known for her profound stories, she also began her career as an actress.

Everyone noticed both of them had wonderfully exercised hand custom made dresses with cultural elements. Amongst those who stood out was Urmimala whose gown was based on a banyan tree’s design and stands for roots, wisdom, and strength. Barriers Can Be Overcome By Telling Stories

Urmimala’s path was filled with societal and professional challenges, but her ability to tell stories fueled her. She started mentoring her daughter Snigdha with a young age starting from the village’s theatres.

Although untitled, the strong attention that Dibrugarh: A Cultural Journey is gaining, strongly backs the expectation that running across Assam’s folklore in modern setting tells a story worth the attention. Snigdha will dedicate herself to the film’s development while studying in Bristeol later this year.

Maintaining cultural identity while integrating modern elements is not something that emerges without credibility.

A Milestone for Rural Portrayal

Their presence in Cannes is viewed as an achievement for rural India. Along with support from the Assam government, their success story is believed to inspire other emerging ADC artists from such underprivileged regions.

Cannes is Boruah family’s first international event. It marks a culmination of their efforts toward achieving sustainability, and shapes a new vision of rural folklore for the world. Attending an event as prominent as the Cannes Film Festival puts Assam on the International tourism map.
