Raspberries are a delightful to enjoy during the warm weather, but it's disheartening when they become covered in fuzzy white mould just days after purchase. Raspberries and other fruits like and often succumb to mould due to their high water content, which attracts bacteria, leading to rapid spoilage.

However, Nicole Modic, a cookbook author and founder of Kale Junkie, has revealed a that can keep berries fresh for weeks, saving you from wasting money on additional fruit purchases. Nicole stated: "There's nothing worse than buying a fresh container of berries, only for them to spoil just a day or two later. So, I'm excited to introduce you to this hack that will extend the lifetime of your berries and keep them fresher for longer. This hack is super easy to do, and will make sure that you have berries that stay fresh."

The key to preserving raspberries is plain , according to the cooking pro. While it may sound odd, this kitchen essential has antimicrobial properties that can eliminate mould spores and bacteria.

The vinegar can cleanse the fruit of any contamination, thereby extending their shelf life, and if done correctly, it won't leave your berries tasting like vinegar.

All you need to do is mix one part vinegar with three parts water in a large bowl, then add your raspberries and any other berries.

To ensure they are free from bacteria, set a timer and soak them for precisely 10 minutes.

Once the 10 minutes are up, drain the vinegar solution and gently pat the berries dry with a paper towel.

The berries must be thoroughly dried; otherwise, this storage trick might not be effective.

After drying, place a layer of paper towels at the bottom of a glass container, add the berries, and then cover them with another sheet of paper towel.

With the berries prepped, store them in the refrigerator where they will remain fresh for an extended period.

Nicole advised: "Store your berries in the fridge, and they should stay good for up to two weeks!"

This straightforward method is successful because once the berries are fully clean, the paper towels will soak up any residual moisture, preventing mould.

For storing raspberries, a glass container like a mason jar is ideal due to its superior sealing compared to plastic containers, which helps manage humidity levels, further inhibiting mould growth and extending the freshness of the berries.
