Senior executives of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) have reportedly said that the organization is working to begin construction within a year.

The 39-meter-long Line 14, also called the Magenta Line, is anticipated to cut journey times by 1.5 to 2 hours as compared to driving, which would help to relieve traffic on the busy roadways.

After the whole route is constructed and put into service, the MMRDA expects the line to see around 7 lakh riders each day.

IIT Bombay has accepted the line’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) draft, which was received from Milan Metro. The state has not yet approved the DPR.

As a result, it is anticipated that the construction bids will be issued soon and that work will begin soon. The Milan Metro’s DPR was adopted by the MMRDA since it is modeled after the city’s Metro system, which is mostly underground.

The Magenta Line will eventually feature raised tracks from Ghansoli to Badlapur after having subterranean tracks from Kanjurarg to Ghansoli. An estimated Rs 18,000 crore would be needed to complete the project. The large-scale project is a component of MMRDA’s plan to increase suburban Metro connections.

The planned line’s passage through the Parsik Hills and the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary is one of the main problems; as a result, the MMRDA will need to get a NOC and approval from the environment and forest ministries.
