Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh is ready to take a new flight in the field of electric mobility. The Urban Transport Directorate of the state has decided to set up 320 Public EV Charging Station (PCS) in 16 major cities under an ambitious scheme. This initiative has been initiated under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which will provide a strong foundation to EV infrastructure in the coming years.
The number of electric vehicles in the state has seen a tremendous increase in recent years. While the number of EVs was 75,998 in the year 2022, in 2024 the figure has reached 1,55,889. With this rapid development, Uttar Pradesh has now become the largest EV user state in the country.
Modern charging hubs will be built in each city
Charging stations will be set up near major markets, restaurants and other public places of cities, allowing maximum facilities to ordinary citizens. 180 square feet of land has been fixed for each station. There will be both fast and slow charger, which will be suitable for two -wheelers, three -wheelers and four -wheelers.
The installation, operation and maintenance of these charging stations will be given to private companies, which are called “Charge Point Operator (CPO)”. These companies will be responsible for all expenses like electricity bill, insurance, tax and consumer service. Apart from this, security standards will also be taken care of at stations.
How many charging stations will be built in which cities?
16 cities of Uttar Pradesh have been included in this scheme. City -wise figures are as follows: Ayodhya (28), Lucknow (27), Kanpur (26), Prayagraj (25), Aligarh (22), Meerut (22), Mathura (21), Gorakhpur (21), Varanasi (20), Agra (20), Firozabad (20), Shahjahanpur (20), Jhansi (20), Bareli (16), Bareli (07) and Saharanpur (05).

This scheme will not only promote electric vehicles, but will also play an important role in the direction of pollution control and green energy. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government seems to be committed to green transport. This project will not only reduce pollution in cities, but will also create new employment opportunities.
