Wamiqa Gabbi is basking in the success and excitement surrounding her latest film, ‘ Bhool Chuk Maaf ’, where she stars opposite Rajkummar Rao . Directed by Karan Sharma , the sci-fi comedy is set in Banaras and follows a quirky time loop plot where Rao’s character, Ranjan Tiwari, keeps waking up to the same haldi ceremony day. Gabbi shines as Titli, a fiery yet innocent small-town girl, marking her first major foray into comedy.
From Background Dancer to Leading Lady
What makes 'Bhool Chuk Maaf' extra special for Gabbi is the inclusion of the recreated end-credit song Chor Bazaari Phir Se. The song is a remix of the beloved Love Aaj Kal track Chor Bazaari, originally starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. For Gabbi, the connection is deeply personal — she was once a background dancer in the original song. Now, years later, starring in a film where the track plays as the closing note feels like a full-circle moment.
Reflecting on the emotional weight of this, Gabbi told News18 Showsha, “Pata nahi kaisi feeling hai yeh (I don’t know what kind of feeling is this)... Sometimes people say manifest, but meine kabhi manifest sochke manifest nahi kiya.” She admitted the experience is “overwhelming” and feels like a dream come true, especially working alongside Rajkummar Rao and under Maddock Films.Imtiaz Ali’s Sweet Surprise
Adding to the emotional high, Gabbi received a personal voice note from director Imtiaz Ali, the man behind Love Aaj Kal, wishing her well before the film’s release. “He had sent a long voice note,” Gabbi shared. “But in the end, he said, ‘Poori baat yahan pe khatam hoti hai ki well done Wamiqa’. That was so sweet [of him]. Look, he doesn’t have to do that, right? But he just knows what it means to me.”
Living the Dream with Gratitude
Gabbi credits her current success to the good people she has worked with and the meaningful connections she’s built in the industry. “I think I realise when my friends are talking about it, when they are sending these long messages and my parents, my father commenting, that’s when I’m realising, ‘wow, this is a very big deal. Is this true?’” she said.
Meanwhile her recent outing ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ is getting good reviews.
