Paramount Plus' heart-stopping psychological drama, "Little Disasters," sees mother Jess (played by Diane Kruger) in turmoil as she brings her baby daughter Betsey into A&E with a mysterious head injury.

This tension-filled plot thickens when Liz (Jo Joyner), the attending doctor and Jess' closest ally, grapples with whether to contact social services over suspicions that Jess might be concealing the truth about Betsey's harm. Liz's decision triggers a devastating ripple through the lives of four friends.

The gripping series, drawn from Sarah Vaughan's acclaimed novel, is brought to the screen under the deft direction of Eva Sigurdardottir. In an enlightening chat with Reach titles among others, Sigurdardottir, a fairly new mum herself, expressed how certain scenes were particularly "triggering" due to relatable maternal experiences.

Sigurdardottir shared her personal battles: "It's not something I recommend to go from being a new mum and spend the next 12 months listening to a crying nine month old, because it's not only during filming, it's during the editing phase and sound post-production."

She added with candour, "It was definitely very triggering, I mean those who have children will know your body just gets heightened every time a baby cries. That was personally challenging."

Adding a lighter note to the daunting role of baby Betsey, Sigurdardottir remarked: "I don't recommend nine months. She was very cute but also a combination of three or four actresses, three dolls...

"It was definitely challenging but what made it doable was that almost everyone, especially on the cast and the key creative roles, were parents.

"It was personally quite rewarding because we had to be honest and open and have deep conversations about what it would be like.

"We were all coming at it from a point of wisdom. What was rewarding for me was everyone had a passion for the story."

Actress Diane lauded Eva for her approach to the series, stating in a separate interview: "Eva was one of the reasons I was keen to do the project.

"She was so refreshingly honest, she knew these characters and was always pushing, not just me, but also the writers and the producers to be grittier, to be more real, to not pretty things up. I really appreciated that."

Irish actress Emily Taaffe, who portrays mother Mel Quinn in the series, also highlighted Eva's experience as a mother, sharing: "She is also a mum herself so to have that connection and shared experience was really important.

"She put together a crack team both in front of, and behind, the camera."
