A road labelled as "one of Britain's most dangerous" has strangely become a attraction for many visitors. Bealach na Bà, also known as the Applecross Pass in the has become a worldwide motoring phenomenon.

When you reach the foot of Bealach na Bà, you are met with a big blue sign with a warning. "This road rises to a height of 2,053ft, with gradients of one in five and hairpin bends," the sign placed high above the side of the road reads. There are further warnings however, asking learner drivers, very large vehicles and caravans to turn away and take the 7.5-mile coastal route. There are passing places along the road that can often lead to tight squeezes and near misses.

Initally, in the 7th century the road was used for monks, then for centuries it provided a route for cattle to pass and only later did it become suitable for drivers.

In 2015 it was included on the map for a new tourism initiative called the North Coast 500, a 516-mile scenic route around the north coast of Scotland, starting and ending at Inverness Castle and with the aim of linking many features in the north and Highlands into one trip.

Many people choose to roadtrip the North Coast 500, also known as the NC500, and the Applecross Pass has become somewhat of highlight for the tourists.

The road offers stunning mountain cliff views, but it is also very dangerous.

Greg Dickinson, Senior Travel Writer for , wrote of his experience on the road: "After turning the first corner, with the spaghetti-thin road coiling before me, the Yosemite sandstone cliffs casting deep shadows on the pass, it dawned on me that this is anything but a playground.

"Bealach na Bà may be one of Britain's most spectacular roads, but it's also one of its most dangerous."

The drop at the side of the road is quite terrifying, so much so that there is a rail placed in parts to aid stumbling drivers.

There are also several extremely sharp bends that will require total focus and shifting down to first gear.

At the summit, there is a car park where tourists passing through have left rocks and a signpole covered in stickers.

The road while being a tourist attraction, is also a vital connection for the surrounding community.
