Google has officially rolled out a redesigned “Activity” tab in the Google Search app for Android, replacing the previous “Saved” tab. With version 16.19 of the app now reaching users on the stable channel, this UI enhancement is part of Google’s ongoing effort to streamline search interaction and improve usability.
The newly introduced Activity tab appears as the fourth icon in the bottom navigation barjoining Home, Search, and Notifications. It introduces a more structured and intuitive layout, grouped into three main sections:
This section displays the user’s last four searches and any websites visited from those queries. Each item is shown in a card format with:
Favicon
Query or page title
Date, time, and domain
A menu for quick actions like Save, Shareor Delete
Tapping on the “[x] items” text in the top corner lets users view a full search history list — an improvement over the older method of accessing this through the account menu.
This retains the functionality of the old “All Saved Items” section, presented now as a carousel. Users can browse through:
Web pages
Images
Product listings
Places from Google Maps
Movies and TV shows
This tab allows users to organize their saved content into custom and default collections for easier retrieval later. It enhances content discoverability and organization.
Users who prefer the legacy format can still access it via “Saves & Collections” in the account menu.
In addition to the new Activity tab, Google has also made minor UI updates to the Home tab’s Daily Listen card. Previously marked with a bold blue background, it now features a more minimalist, outlined designaligning with the newer look of shortcut icons below the Search bar—particularly when Ai Mode is active.
The introduction of the Activity tab is designed to make it easier for users to track, manage, and revisit their search behaviors without navigating deep into the account settings. It aligns with Google’s broader vision of simplifying app interactions and integrating intelligent content curation.
