Kher talks openly about his early years, his hardships, and the long-term effects of Saaransh in the video.
It is May 25, 2025, today. My first movie, Saaransh, came out 41 years ago on May 25, 1984. I have been a filmmaker for forty-one years. He begins the video by saying, “I wanted to speak to you, to tell you about my journey of 41 years.”
“I arrived in Mumbai on June 3, 1981, after my studies at the National School of theatrical, a theatrical school. Then I was teaching in Lucknow. After three years of looking for job, Mr. Bhatt handed me Saaransh,” Kher said.
“And palak jhapakte guzar gaye has been going on for forty-one years. Saaransh over 41 years. It has been such a lovely adventure. What a voyage of gratitude. My trip has been excellent, despite some ups and downs. At least 544 or 545 films have been produced by me. What has changed in my life over the last forty-one years, I wondered today,” he said.
Saaransh, which was released in 1984, told the heartbreaking tale of an elderly couple in Mumbai who were attempting to deal with the loss of their son. Rohini Hattangadi played BV Pradhan’s wife, while Anupam Kher played his role. Soni Razdan, Madan Jain, Nilu Phule, and Suhas Bhalekar were also in the movie. It is still regarded as one of the most potent and prestigious dramas in Indian film.
Kher’s next film is Tanvi The Great, which he directed. After more than twenty years, the actor is back in the director’s seat with this. Last week, the film was shown at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival, where it was well welcomed by viewers from across the world.
