It may be time to update if you’ve been hanging onto one of Amazon’s first Fire TV models.

As first reported by German publication Heise and then verified by ZDNet for American users, Netflix has announced that it will stop supporting some of the earlier Amazon Fire TV devices starting on June 3. Devices older than ten years are impacted by the change.

Amazon representative Jen Lurey Ridings told a well-known publishing business that Netflix would no longer support some Fire TV devices from the first generation, which were initially released over a decade ago. On every other Fire TV device, Netflix is still accessible.

The original Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote are all included in this. Customers are advised to get in touch with Amazon customer support for more information, as they could qualify for a discount on more recent Fire TV Stick models.

A recent change to Netflix’s support website suggests that there may be compatibility difficulties with older devices; however, the company has not yet disclosed the precise reason for the termination. As the business clarified, it could stop supporting devices that “can no longer get necessary updates from its manufacturer or support new features.” Additionally, Netflix introduced error codes R4, R12, and R25-1 to identify devices that are not supported. Regarding the decision, Netflix has not issued an official remark.
