With the onset of the monsoon in Mumbai, the newly-inaugurated Aqua Line (Mumbai Metro Line 3) faced unexpected flooding. Visuals shared by journalist Tejas Joshi from the Worli station showed significant flooding on the platform, prompting a wave of witty yet critical reactions on X.
Netizens wasted no time in pointing out the feeling of walking into the Aqua Line metro station and finding it flooded, quite the irony. “Aqua Line giving real aqua feeling,” quipped one user, while another added, “They were serious when they named it Aqua Line.”
The sarcasm didn’t stop there. “Aqua Line 3: It’s not just a name anymore. Underwater scenic route!” joked another, summing up the bizarre situation with a touch of humour.
However, not all reactions were light-hearted. Several users raised serious concerns about the metro’s flood preparedness.

One pointed out, “Every underground railway will have the risk of flooding when it rains heavily. This is a universal truth now.”
Another questioned the infrastructure design, saying, “This amount of water can’t come down unless there is a breach in some stormwater drain or sewage. The platform is a good 130 ft below. Some big goof-up.”
Mumbai's Aqua Line Metro
The Acharya Atre station on the BKC-Worli stretch, which was opened to the public just weeks ago, saw knee-deep water levels, prompting authorities to suspend services, evacuate staff, and temporarily shut down transport operations.
The incident has raised questions about the metro line’s readiness for Mumbai’s infamous monsoon season.
"Due to an unforeseen technical issue, train services on Metro Line-3 are temporarily curtailed and will operate only up to Worli Station instead of Acharya Atre Chowk. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused", the Mumbai Metro authorities on the respective line stated on X.
