Retro's Upcoming Release on Netflix

The much-anticipated film Retro, featuring Tamil superstar Suriya, is preparing for its debut on the OTT platform following a successful run in theaters. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film includes performances from Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, and Karunakaran. Despite receiving a mixed reception, it performed well at the box office.


Release Details

Retro is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on May 31, available in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.


Netflix India announced the release date, stating, “A sacred spear. A secret identity. A saga for the ages. Watch Retro, out 31 May, on Netflix in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.”


Cast and Production Insights

In addition to Suriya and Pooja Hegde, the film features notable actors such as Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Joju George, Jayaram, Sujith Shankar, and Singampuli in significant roles. Shriya Saran will make a cameo appearance.


Interestingly, it was reported that the film was initially offered to Thalapathy Vijay. However, director Karthik Subbaraj clarified that the script was originally intended for superstar Rajinikanth. In an interview, he mentioned, “This story was not written for Thalapathy Vijay sir, as being speculated. I wrote this script keeping in mind Thalaivar. Initially, it was more in the action zone to suit Thalaivar’s image. After narrating it to Suriya sir, it was changed to a love story. Even Suriya sir asked me if I narrated the script to Rajinikanth sir.”


Suriya's Recent Projects

On the professional front, Suriya's last film, ‘Kanguva,’ did not perform well at the box office. This movie also featured Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Natty Subramaniam, K. S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Ravi Raghavendra, and Karunas.
