Priyank Panchal, who previously captained the Gujarat domestic cricket team and has led India A on various occasions, has officially declared his retirement from all forms of cricket. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) confirmed this news on Monday, extending their congratulations to Panchal for his illustrious career. Anil Patel, the secretary of GCA, made the announcement, stating:
"The Gujarat Cricket Association congratulates Mr. Priyank Panchal on a fantastic career. The batter has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Sunday, May 26, 2025."
Panchal has dedicated 17 years to the state board, primarily as an opening batsman. At 35 years old, he has played 97 List A matches for Gujarat, scoring 3,672 runs with an impressive average of 40.80, which includes eight centuries and 21 fifties. In T20 cricket, he has participated in 59 matches, accumulating 1,522 runs at an average of 28.71, with nine half-centuries to his credit. His first-class career includes 127 matches, where he has amassed 8,856 runs at an average of 45.18, featuring 29 centuries and 34 fifties.
During the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season, Panchal had a remarkable performance, solidifying his reputation as a top performer in domestic cricket. He scored an impressive 1,310 runs throughout the tournament, with his standout moment being an unbeaten 314, which remains his highest score and a pivotal innings in his career. His exceptional batting was instrumental in helping Gujarat secure their first-ever Ranji Trophy title that season.
In addition to his Ranji Trophy achievements, Panchal has played a significant role in Gujarat's successes in white-ball cricket. He was part of the team that won the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2015–16 season, demonstrating his versatility in the 50-over format. Furthermore, he contributed to Gujarat's victories in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's leading domestic T20 tournament, during the 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons.
