India is set to play a five-match Test series against England from 20 June and this series will also start the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle of India. The England Test series is very important for Gambhir as India has not succeeded in long format during his tenure. Apart from this, the team also failed to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, India lost 1-3 in the five-match series.
After this defeat, the Indian team also failed to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) for the first time in their history. This terrible performance led to a major change in the team and captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin retired from the Test after losing two consecutive series.
Now Shubman Gill will lead a young team in England and his deputy will be Rishabh Pant. Sai Sudarshan and Arshdeep Singh have earned their first Test call-up while Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur have returned to the team. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan, Harshit and Mohammed Shami failed to make it to the team.
