Inglis Steps Up for Punjab Kings

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India] - May 27: Josh Inglis of Punjab Kings shared insights about his recent shift in batting order, showcasing his characteristic humor while discussing the challenge of stepping in for captain Shreyas Iyer at the No. 3 position. This change came after Punjab Kings triumphed over Mumbai Indians by seven wickets, securing their place in the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2025.

Inglis's elevation to the third spot proved fruitful as he formed a crucial 109-run partnership with Priyansh Arya, achieving this in just 59 balls and leading Punjab to victory in 18.3 overs.

Post-match, Inglis expressed his delight about the batting order change and praised Arya for his impressive performance, scoring 62 runs off 35 balls with excellent shot selection, demonstrating maturity beyond his experience.

“The left-right combination was advantageous given the short boundaries, and we focused on playing strategically. We aimed to maintain our momentum during the middle overs. It would have been ideal for one of us to finish the innings. I didn’t need to guide him much; it was enjoyable batting alongside him as he was adept at identifying match-ups,” Inglis remarked during the presentation.

When asked about taking over the No. 3 role from Iyer, he lightened the mood with his humor, saying, “I doubt he’s thrilled about it, but I certainly am.”

Inglis admitted that he initially faced challenges in finding his rhythm during the chase, but the new batting position helped him gain the necessary momentum.

“As he mentioned, I was a bit unsettled at first, but it feels great to bat here and build some momentum,” he noted.

Inglis also reflected on how his stature has been an unexpected advantage. He acknowledged that while he may not be the fastest runner, he relies on his intelligence and hard work to succeed rather than sheer speed or power.

“I’m not the quickest, which is the advantage of my size. I may lack the power of some players, so I have to run hard and think smart,” he concluded.
