New Delhi: After tightening the immigration rules and revoking Harvard University’s permission to admit international students under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), the United States government has issued a notice to international students, including Indians.
The US Embassy in India has issued a notice to students studying in the US. It said, “If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked.”
Earlier, the Donald Trump administration has sent shockwaves to the higher education landscape in the US by revoking Harvard University’s permission to admit international students. Many experts believe that the US government has intensified its crackdown on international students considering various reasons including pro-Palestine protests and to traffic violations. However, a federal judge in California temporarily blocked this move.
International students are concerned that the Donald Trump administration will make changes to Optional Practical Training (OPT), an important way for international students to work in the United States after graduation. Lawmakers have already introduced the Fairness for High-Skilled Americans Act of 2025 to end the OPT program.
