Digvesh Singh Rathi, known for his signature “tick the notebook” celebration after taking a wicket has already led to fines and even a one-match suspension in this IPL is unlikely to use the gesture if he manages to dismiss Virat Kohli.
Ahead of the final league-stage match of IPL 2025 between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rathi was asked,”Agla number kiska? (Who is number is next).
As the crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of Digvesh up close, chants of Virat Kohli’s name began to fill the air. The leg-spinner responded with a shy smile and a subtle shake of his head, signaling that he wouldn’t be ticking off Kohli’s name in his notebook.
Digvesh had a impressive IPL season as he grabbed 14 wickets in 12 matches at an ecoonomy of rate of 8.19. The Delhi-based bowler was fined twice and received a warning from the BCCI for violating the IPL Code of Conduct with his notebook celebration, yet he chose to stick with it.
In his previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he not only marked Abhishek Sharma’s name in the notebook after dismissing the explosive opener but also got into a heated altercation with him.
The match referee classified it as his third Level 1 offence, accumulating five demerit points. According to the IPL Code of Conduct, reaching five demerit points leads to a one-match suspension for the player.
Digvesh will face Kohli for the first time in his career as LSG will play against RCB for the first time this IPL season as they were placed in different groups
