Nearly 800 investors in Karnataka were lured and defrauded by a bogus software named after US President Donald Trump, according to a stunning incident reported by The Times of India (ToI).
The article claims that more than 200 investors who lost a total of Rs 2 crore to the Trump Hotel Rental app during the previous five to six months complained to the Karnataka Police, which led to the scam’s discovery.
The ‘Trump Hotel Rental’ app employed artificial intelligence (AI) to create realistic-looking videos and pictures of US President Donald Trump. According to reports, the app enticed users with promises of rich investment schemes and work possibilities that might provide up to 100% returns in a short amount of time.
According to the authorities, the scam lasted for five to six months before it was discovered, and it is estimated that over 800 investors were defrauded, some of whom had spent over Rs 10 lakh in the hopes of receiving a speedy return. The app has been removed and is no longer in use.
According to sources, TOI said that an investment’s revenues will be shown on an app dashboard. The anonymous crooks utilized this as bait to get additional investors.
The officer said, “Each completed task (assigned to an investor) appeared to increase their ‘earnings’ on the app dashboard, but the money was never real.”
In the Haveri district, a total of 15 cases had been reported. Numerous victims have not come forward to lodge a complaint despite losing money in the same scam,” he said.
Between January 25 and April 4, a lawyer who was one of the victims lost Rs 6 lakh. Based on allegations made at several Karnataka police stations, including Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Mangaluru, Kalburgi, Hubballi, Dharwad, Shivamogga, Ballari, Bidar, and Haveri, the police are looking into the situation.
