The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 was administered on Sunday, May 25, in two two-hour sessions. Two objective-style examinations, General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2 (CSAT), made up the test. These two papers combined constitute the qualifying stage for the next step of the hiring process.

The results of the UPSC CSE Prelims 2025 will probably be announced in June and can be viewed on the UPSC website, upsc.gov.in. The UPSC Mains Examination, a comprehensive, descriptive examination that evaluates in-depth knowledge and analytical abilities, is the next step for candidates who pass the preliminary exam.

The Mains exam consists of nine examinations totaling 1750 marks, including two optional topic papers, four General Studies papers, an essay paper, and language papers. Language papers are qualifying, however the ultimate merit list is based on the grades obtained in the remaining examinations. In addition to testing topic knowledge, this step is crucial since it assesses a candidate's ability to think critically and articulate ideas convincingly under pressure.
