Brooches are synonymous with British heritage. In 1901, Queen Victoria determined that the brooches were heirlooms of the crown that passed directly down the line of monarchs, only to be worn by queens or royal consorts. Back in 1939, King George VI gifted his wife, Queen Elizabeth, the stunning leaf accessory ahead of their royal tour to Canada and instructed Asprey to create the bespoke piece.
This was later passed on to their daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, who wore it regularly throughout her reign and even lent it to Queen Camilla.
The late monarch would opt for the jewel for royal tours of the country, as well as during engagements at home, always wearing it with pride.
It is reported that over her 70-year reign, she acquired more than 300, but the Canadian maple leaf design was among her favourites.
Jewellery experts at claimed that the sparkling staple is estimated to be worth around £30,000.
Maxwell Stone said: "The Canadian Maple Leaf Brooch is more than just a beautiful piece of jewellery - it's a powerful symbol of the enduring friendship between the UK and Canada."
He added that it is "made of platinum and diamonds in the shape of the national maple leaf and has since been worn by three generations of royal women".
Queen Elizabeth was snapped wearing the brooch in 2021, a year before her death. She also gave it to the Princess of Wales for her 2011 Canadian tour.
The jewellery expert added it "reflects its deep diplomatic and sentimental value - both historically and today".
Queen Camilla also had the privilege to wear the staple and wore it for her official Canadian portrait, which was taken by Millie Pilkington in June 2024.
