Riyadh, May 27: Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the crescent Moon for the Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH has been sighted on Tuesday evening. As per the sighting, the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah will begin on Wednesday (May 28). According to the Islamic calendar Eid al-Adha or Bakrid will be celebrated in the kingdom on Friday (June 6).

Lakhs of Muslims from around the world have gathered in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, which is an important Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca and Madinah. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and it is mandatory for every Muslim who is physically and financially fit to perform at least once in their lifetime. As the Dhul-Hijjah Moon has been sighted:

1. Day of Arafah will be on Thursday (June 5)

2. Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Friday (June 6)

Eid al-Adha is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice. It is one of the most important Islamic rituals. The day is celebrated in the remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who showed great faith in God. The festival is celebrated with special prayers, family gatherings, the sacrifice of animals and giving to those in need.

Many countries, including Egypt, follow Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting. People can now begin preparing for the festivals and the spiritual days ahead. May Allah accept the Hajj of all pilgrims and the worship of Muslims around the world.
