New Delhi: The Indian Premier League 2025 edition has reached its final stage with just last four high-octane matches remaining. After a season which was marked by intense battles and unexpected turns, four formidable units made their way into the playoffs and one of these franchises will go on become the champion in the 18th edition of the cash-rich tournament.
While all the four sides had confirmed a spot in the playoffs days ago but the final league game of the IPL 2025 had top-two finish at stake. On Tuesday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were up against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma ensuring that the Challengers head into the playoffs with a win and secure the second spot.
With a magnificent six-wicket victory against Lucknow, RCB set up a clash against Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 in Chandigarh and the same venue is slated to host the Eliminator between fourth-placed Mumbai Indians and third-placed Gujarat Titans.
The team which will lose in Qualifier 1 will face the winner of the Eliminator clash in Qualifier 2. The team which wins the first qualifier goes into the final directly where it will meet the winner of the qualifier 2.
Qualifier 1: Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru – May 29, Chandigarh
Eliminator: Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians – May 30, Chandigarh
Qualifier 2: Loser of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of Eliminator – June 1, Ahmedabad
Final: Winner of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of Qualifier 2 – June 3, Ahmedabad
Meanwhile, chasing a mammoth target of 228, RCB got off to a flying start with Virat Kohli scoring a quick half-century and Phil Salt scoring 30 runs. It was all about Jitesh Sharma’s 85-run knock after that ably supported by Mayank Agarwal (41) who helped the side wrap up the innings completing a record chase with eight deliveries to spare.
With the win, RCB finished second on the table with 19 points, same as top-placed Punjab Kings, with net run rate differentiating the two sides.
