Gurugram Liquor Prices: The city’s liquor merchants are allegedly undercutting the minimum retail sale price (MRSP) for alcoholic beverages and charging clubs and pubs much more than is permitted by law. The excise department of Gurugram has opened an inquiry into these claims.
Any violations of MRSP rules, according to officials, might indicate VAT evasion and give rise to worries about the market sale of perhaps subpar or illegal wine. A parallel, unregulated pricing system has also been claimed by social activists and bar owners.
The mandatory floor price for alcoholic beverages under Haryana’s excise law is the MRSP, below which no sales are allowed under any circumstances. In addition to impeding market competition, such a sale might also suggest improper assessment or payment of transaction taxes.
Exiting L-2 license holders (owners of retail vending machines) sometimes attempt to offload outmoded items by offering steep discounts when their term is coming to an end.
Some suppliers are purportedly cutting prices to avoid losses while moving goods to new license holders as the new excise policy year begins on June 12.
Under both the current excise policy and the new one that will go into effect on June 12, 2025, and last through March 31, 2027, L-2 licensees are not allowed to provide discounts below the MRSP.
Additionally, the rule prohibits L-2 vendors from charging bars and pubs more than 10% above the MRSP.
