Dwarka Expressway: It would be easier to travel from Gurugram, Sohna, and Jaipur to Delhi Airport. The much-anticipated 2.5-kilometer tunnel on the Dwarka Expressway’s Delhi segment is finished and will be accessible to traffic on May 29. During the first phase, the tunnel will be open every day from 12 PM to 3 PM for three hours, giving commuters much-needed respite during the busy afternoon hours.
After conducting a joint inspection on Tuesday with traffic police officials from Delhi and Gurugram, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) approved this temporary opening, according to Jagran.com. The decision was made in response to the high volume of traffic that passes through Delhi Airport throughout the day from Jaipur and Gurugram. During this trial run, authorities will keep an eye on traffic trends and may shortly make a decision about full-day access in the second phase.
In addition to providing a quicker alternative route to the airport, the tunnel, which runs under the Delhi part of the Dwarka Expressway, is anticipated to ease traffic on the congested Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. Travelers heading to the airport may anticipate a more hassle-free drive thanks to a more efficient car flow, particularly from regions like Manesar, Sohna, and Jaipur.
During this phase, certain cars will not be allowed to enter the tunnel in order to ensure efficiency and safety. These consist of slow-moving vehicles such as tractors with trolleys, three-wheelers, water and gas tankers, and two-wheelers.
Since last year, the Gurugram Stretch has been in operation.
From the Kherki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway to Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur, Delhi, the whole Dwarka Expressway runs. The Delhi segment, particularly the tunnel, was still under construction, but the Gurugram section had been operational since last year. In order to alleviate traffic congestion between Dhaula Kuan in Delhi and Manesar in Gurugram, especially close to the Sirhaul border, NHAI is keen to open the whole length once it is finished.
Thousands of commuters who travel between Delhi and Gurugram would profit from the tunnel once it is fully operational. For those traveling from Manesar or Gurugram to the airport, this route provides a faster and less crowded option. It is also anticipated to facilitate two-way traffic between the Sirhaul border and Dhaula Kuan.
Everything Regarding the Dwarka Expressway Project
With an estimated cost of Rs 9,000 crore, the Dwarka Expressway project is a major step in improving access to Delhi Airport and reducing traffic in the NCR. Dwarka and the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway are connected by the recently constructed 2.5 km tunnel on the Delhi length, while Shiv Murti and Palam Airport are connected by a further 4 km tunnel.
It should reduce the travel time between Manesar and Palam Airport to around 30 minutes once it is fully operational. With 23 km of elevated highways and a 4 km subterranean tunnel, the expressway spans 18.9 km in Gurugram and 10.1 km in Delhi. To guarantee timely and effective completion, the construction was divided between two contractors. An important step towards improving airport access for commuters from Gurugram, Jaipur, and beyond has been taken with the phased tunnel opening.
