IIT Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has changed its curriculum after 12 years. This change has been made to reduce the burden on the students and keep in mind the demands of the industry. Director Rangan Banerjee said that earlier the curriculum was revised in 2013.
He said, "The demands of the industry are changing rapidly. Special attention is being given to artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability. The process of this change started in 2022. We have taken feedback from stakeholders over the years, including our alumni, students, and faculty. We are trying to bring flexibility to make the curriculum more exciting for the students."
Focus on reducing the burden on students.
The class size in the first two semesters has now been reduced from 300 to 150 so that students can get individual attention.
Changing the way of learning
He said, "We have focused on 'learning by doing'. So it was our priority to reduce the stress on students, but we also want the curriculum to be rigor and choice."
Some important changes in the new system
Now an honours program has also been added along with the BTech degree.
At the end of the third year, a graduate student can apply for any of the available MTech programs of IIT Delhi, which will enable him to get both bachelor's and master's degrees in 5 years.
AI-based code generators have been added to programming education so that students can prepare for future technological needs.
Each student will get some training on sustainability, which will help them bring about a change in the industry and society.
Banerjee also said that he has studied the curriculum of Stanford University, MIT, Cambridge University, and other leading institutes to make the curriculum of IIT Delhi even better and future-ready.
