  • Jagran Correspondent, Gurugram. People coming from Gurugram, Sohna and Jaipur will find it easier to go to Delhi Airport. The work on the two and a half kilometer tunnel being built in Delhi area on Dwarka Expressway has been completed. In the first phase, it will be opened for three hours every day from May 29.

Drivers will be able to use this tunnel between 12 noon and 3 pm. After checking the pressure of vehicles, a decision can be taken soon on opening it completely in the second phase.

On Tuesday afternoon, officials of Delhi, Gurugram traffic police and NHAI inspected the tunnel and unanimously decided to open it for vehicles for three hours in the first phase.

Because during the afternoon there is a lot of pressure of vehicles going to the airport from Gurugram and Jaipur. In such a situation, opening of this tunnel will make it easier for drivers to reach the airport.

With drivers getting a good option of Dwarka Expressway, the pressure of vehicles on Delhi-Gurugram Expressway can also be reduced. This will ease the traffic. Gurugram traffic police officials said that a decision will also be taken soon to open the tunnel in the second phase.

It was informed that for now, entry of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, water tankers, gas tankers, tractor-trolleys and other low-speed vehicles will be prohibited in this tunnel.

The Gurugram section has already started a year ago

Dwarka Expressway has been constructed from near Kherki Daula toll plaza on Delhi-Gurugram Expressway to opposite Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur, Delhi. Its Gurugram part was opened last year. Construction of tunnel was left in Delhi part.

Now not only the construction of the tunnel has been completed. NHAI is trying to make it fully operational as soon as possible so that the traffic pressure on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway can be reduced. There is a lot of traffic pressure on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway from Dhaula Kuan in Delhi to Manesar in Gurugram, especially till the Sirhaul border.

After the Delhi section becomes operational, those going to the airport from Manesar will use the Dwarka Expressway. Not only this, those going to the airport from Gurugram area and those coming from the airport to Gurugram will also use the tunnel. This is expected to reduce the traffic pressure on both sides from Dhaula Kuan to Sirhaul border to a great extent.
