With 19 new COVID-19 cases detected in Navi Mumbai over the last four days, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its preparedness to prevent the potential spread of the virus. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has directed all municipal hospitals to reserve beds for COVID-19 patients and ensure the availability of essential medical supplies, including medicines, PPE kits, oxygen, and surgical equipment.

“As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 62 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Navi Mumbai—60 RT-PCR tests and 2 Rapid Antigen tests. Of the 62 positive cases, four are in quarantine and the rest are admitted. None of them are serious and all are doing well. The variant is yet to be verified,” said Medical Health Officer Dr. Prashant Jawade.

In a review meeting with Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Dr. Jawade, and other officials, Dr. Shinde emphasized the need for immediate action. He instructed the health department to increase testing capacity, establish dedicated COVID-19 wards in all three municipal hospitals, and ensure that medical and paramedical staff remain on high alert for a prompt response.

The Commissioner also called for enhanced public awareness through various media channels, urging citizens to maintain personal hygiene, stay informed through official sources, and avoid spreading panic. He appealed to those experiencing cold, cough, or flu-like symptoms to seek medical advice and visit the nearest municipal health center or hospital for testing and treatment.

The NMMC has assured citizens that all necessary precautions are being taken to contain and prevent the spread of the virus.
