The master plan for the ambitious Dharavi Redevelopment Project was approved on Wednesday during a review meeting attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and senior officials.

CM Fadnavis directed that the Dharavi Redevelopment Project be implemented in an environmentally sustainable and integrated manner, while preserving the unique identity of Dharavi as one of the country’s most significant clusters of micro-industries and a vital economic hub.

Highlighting the project's importance, CM Fadnavis stated, “The core commercial fabric of Dharavi, known for its skilled artisans and diverse small-scale industries, must be protected. Rehabilitation of local craftsmen and entrepreneurs should be given topmost priority. Every original resident of Dharavi should receive a home under this redevelopment initiative.”

He emphasized that every eligible resident must benefit from the rehabilitation process. While criteria for eligibility may vary, they must ensure inclusion of all legitimate stakeholders. He also stressed that the redevelopment must retain Dharavi’s traditional commercial identity while facilitating modern infrastructure.

Fadnavis instructed relevant departments to coordinate effectively and carry out development with sensitivity to local sentiments and in consultation with the community.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde directed all departments to expedite necessary approvals and procedures to ensure smooth progress of the project.

During the meeting, Dharavi Redevelopment Project CEO Srinivas gave a detailed presentation outlining the scope and roadmap of the redevelopment plan.
