He asked Bhalla to act quickly to address the important concerns, particularly the problem of illegal immigration, after resigning as Chief Minister on February 9, four days before the President’s Rule was implemented in the troubled state.
Earlier this month, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, the BJP’s representative from Manipur in the Rajya Sabha, expressed optimism that a popular administration will be established in the state within the next two months. In order to address the difficulties the state has been experiencing, he called on all political leaders to work together.
“The current problems cannot be resolved by the president’s authority alone. He had informed the reporters, “A popular government can work closely with the people and find a solution to the current ethnic crisis.”
Earlier this month, BJP North East In-charge Sambit Patra traveled to the Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts of the state, where he met with Kuki BJP MLAs Vungzagin Valte and Nemcha Kipgen as well as a number of Kuki-Zo and civil society organizations, including as the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU).
In the Manipur administration headed by Biren Singh, Kipgen was the only female minister.
Additionally, Patra met behind closed doors with Biren Singh, Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, the Speaker of the Assembly, and other Imphal leaders and MLAs. Nevertheless, throughout his three-day visit to Manipur, Patra and the BJP did not reveal the topic of the meetings. He paid a visit over a week after 21 MLAs wrote to Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pleading with them to restore a “popular government” in the state.
