One of the most popular comedians in the nation, Kapil Sharma has a sizable fan base. The celebrity has been hosting his own program on television and over-the-top (OTT) platforms for more than ten years.
However, Kapil has seldom ever been seen discussing his private life, particularly his late father. For those who don’t know, Kapil’s father, Jeetendra Kumar Punj, was a Punjab police chief constable. After battling illness for seven years, he died in 2004. The actor recently discussed his father in an interview, revealing that his father’s goal was for him to become an artist.
In an open discussion on his cousin’s podcast, Kapil said, “I have witnessed my father working so hard,” as reported by ETimes. And being a police officer is such an unappreciated profession. He refused to give us any holidays, so as a family, we hardly ever went out or celebrated holidays. I saw that we have family meals every weekend when I was in Mumbai. I thus came to the realization that I would do something that would make my work enjoyable. I must have a strong enthusiasm for it. Speaking of concentration, I was at a loss for options. It’s hard to acquire a government position like the one my dad held.
“Becoming an artist wasn’t only my dream. My father had a dream, and I fulfilled it. When he arrived for my first theater performance, he showed me some of his photos and disclosed that, while I was unaware of it, he had also performed in theater performances. He would become quite excited whenever I told him about my shows and group songs. He never informed me about it, but when he did, I felt like I had realized their hopes,” he said.
Regarding his professional life, Kapil Sharma is returning with a new season of The Great Indian Kapil Show. On June 21, the third season of the program will be available on Netflix. Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek, and Archana Puran Singh are also featured.
