Breast sweating is a common yet under-discussed issue, particularly during warmer months or in humid climates. It can affect comfort and lead to skin irritation or infections if not managed properly. "Breast sweat is caused by trapped heat, tight or non-breathable clothing, poor ventilation under the bust, and skin friction, especially in those with larger breasts or higher body fat. It’s more than just discomfort; it can lead to heat rashes, chafing, fungal infections, and body odour caused by bacteria breaking down sweat," says celebrity Cosmetologist Dr Mahnaz Jahan Begum , aesthetic expert, entrepreneur, and founder of Keradis, a board-certified super specialist, cosmetic, plastic and hair transplant surgeon.
Understand the causes
Sweat collects beneath the breasts due to trapped heat, poor ventilation, tight or synthetic clothing, and natural skin folds. Larger breast size and higher body fat can also contribute to increased perspiration in this area.
Choose breathable bras
Avoid padded or underwired bras in hot weather. Opt for cotton or moisture-wicking sports bras, which allow air to circulate and help absorb sweat.
Use antiperspirants or powders
Apply a gentle antiperspirant beneath the breasts to temporarily block sweat glands. Alternatively, try talc-free powders such as arrowroot or cornstarch to keep the skin dry. Specialist products like Megababe Bust Dust or Carpe No-Sweat Breast Lotion are designed for this purpose.
Try absorbent liners
Bra liners or sweat pads placed under the bust can absorb moisture and prevent it from soaking through clothing.
Wear loose, breathable clothing
Choose flowy tops in breathable fabrics like cotton or lightweight polyester. Avoid clingy materials, and opt for patterns that help mask sweat marks.
Maintain good hygiene
Keep the area clean and dry. Wash with mild soap and dry thoroughly to prevent bacterial or fungal growth.
