Mumbai: A man allegedly attempted to set himself on fire outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' official bungalow ‘Varsha’ in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. However, a major tragedy was averted as the police acted swiftly and prevented the self-immolation attempt in time.

The man, identified as Ajit Maidgi, reportedly poured petrol on himself and tried to set himself ablaze in front of the high-security government residence located in the Malabar Hill area.

The Malabar Hill Police immediately intervened, took him into custody, and later registered a case against him. Ajit, a native of Solapur, is currently being questioned. The motive behind the extreme act remains unclear, and police are investigating the circumstances that led to his drastic step.
