The Indian Premier League (IPL) is not just a cricket tournament, but has become a multidimensional business model. While the brightness of the players and the enthusiasm of the fans remains in the discussion, the owners of the team also earn crores. Winning the IPL final is not only a matter of respect, but also financially beneficial. But the question is, how much money comes in the team owner’s pocket when winning the IPL final?

How much is the reward amount?

In the 2024 IPL, the champion team got a prize money of Rs 20 crore. At the same time, the team losing in the final received a reward of Rs 12.4 crore. 7 crore and 6.5 crore rupees were given to the teams who finished third and fourth. However, this prize money is directly divided between players and support staff. No official information has been made public on the amount received directly to the owners of the team as prize money.

Team owners’ source of earnings

The earnings of team owners are not limited to prize money only. There are many other sources of this, from which the owners get a large amount:-

Sponsorship and brand promotion: The team has sponsorship income from advertisements on jersey, cap and other materials. This amount is a major revenue source for owners.

TV Revenue: IPL matches are shown on live television and digital platforms, from where the upcoming advertisement income gets to the team owners.

Ticket sales: Ticket sales from the stadium during the match also contribute significantly to the income of the owners.

Merchandise Selling: The sale of products associated with T-shirts, caps, and other teams also earns.

There is no tax on the revenue received by the BCCI from the IPL, but this amount is shared between the BCCI and the team owners.

IPL: A big business model

IPL has converted cricket into entertainment as well as a large economic system. Team owners earn huge not only by winning the game, but also from advertising, branding and merchandising. Therefore, winning IPL is not just like winning toffee, but also a sign of a big economic success.
